Senior Pet Adoption Drive
Animal shelter open house
This is Camile, an older adult female black/white cocker spaniel stray found on Foothill Rd. "One day I just wandered a little too far away from my home and being blind and deaf, I just couldn't find my way back. As senior I get around just fine, using my nose as a guide and taking it slow and easy. A little bump from a friendly dog or gentle pat from a human is always welcome."

Though old dogs may not offer much in the new tricks department, they sure have a lot of experience being good and loving companions.

To help more these mature dogs (and their feline counterparts) find comfortable homes and family friends in their final years, the Flathead County Animal Shelter will host an open house on Sept. 19 to kick off their Senior Pet Adoption Drive.

Cindie Jobe, a member of the shelter’s committee and a volunteer, said the older pets are often overlooked for younger, more energetic dogs. But a family environment does the senior pets good, she said, and often helps improve their health.

The shelter welcomes visitors all day anyway, so stop by – you may just find a new best friend.
