Senior Star Leads Ronan Past Whitefish in Championship

The story of the Northwest A boys divisional championship game, and perhaps the entire tournament, was Ronan star Moss Tanner, who led his No. 3 Chiefs to a 60-53 victory over the No. 4 Whitefish Bulldogs on Saturday night.
The 6-foot-2 senior guard did everything for the Chiefs, harassing the Bulldogs on defense, breaking them down on offense and finding a variety of ways to score throughout the game. He finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks. He averaged 23 points per game for the tournament.
Ronan took a 7-4 lead early in the first quarter on a Tanner three-pointer and never lost the lead. The Chiefs had a commanding 33-20 lead at halftime.
But the Bulldogs had one final flurry left in the fourth quarter. Led by junior star Colt Idol, who finished with 26 points, the Bulldogs pulled to within six points, 45-39, early in the fourth. That was as close as they got. Idol averaged a tournament-high 25.7 points per game.
Junior Nolan Harris chipped in 16 points for Ronan, including four three-pointers.
Ronan advances to the state tournament, but Whitefish will have to clear another hurdle to earn its state tourney berth. On Monday at 6 p.m. at Glacier High School, the Bulldogs will take on the No. 2 Columbia Falls Wildcats in a challenge game to decide who gets to go to state.
