Shooting in Marion Leaves One Man Dead

A man is dead after an early morning altercation that ended in a shooting in Marion on Sunday.

According to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Mark Ames is in custody at the Flathead County Detention Center and being held on a deliberate homicide charge after the incident.

The shooting happened at about 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 12, outside of a duplex owned by one of the men involved. Ames’ wife rented one of the apartments, and the victim lived in the other apartment. The victim’s name is being withheld until his family is notified.

There was an altercation outside the duplex, the sheriff’s office reported, and Ames allegedly fired multiple rounds into the victim’s apartment. The two men then confronted each other outside the residences, where Ames allegedly fatally wounded the victim.

The sheriff’s office reported that both men were armed during the incident. The victim was taken to Kalispell Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
