Sidney Man Arrested After Shooting, Standoff With Police

BILLINGS – A 51-year-old Sidney man accused of shooting another man in the face, arm, leg and hand before engaging police in an armed standoff has been arrested.

Sidney police say Robert M. Escobedo was arrested early Sunday morning after a standoff that lasted about 90 minutes. He is accused of breaking into his ex-wife’s home and shooting 40-year-old Sidney resident Michael Shy with a .22-caliber handgun. Shy and Escobedo’s ex-wife managed to escape from the home.

Police arrested Escobedo after he either intentionally or accidentally shot himself in the foot. He was taken to a local hospital and will be transported to Richland County Jail after he is treated. Shy remains in fair condition at a Billings hospital.

Escobedo was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts of aggravated assault with a weapon and one felony count aggravated burglary with a weapon.
