State Changing Test for High School Equivalency
State ending contract with the General Educational Development Testing Service
HELENA – State education officials are changing the test used to award high school equivalency diplomas.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau says the state is ending its contract with the General Educational Development Testing Service because the cost of its GED tests were going to increase from $55 to $120 in 2014. The company also was moving away from offering a paper exam.

Juneau says she recommended the Montana Board of Public Education enter into a contract with Educational Testing Service, or ETS, for the Montana high school equivalency exam. ETS has ties to the Common Core curriculum standards adopted by 45 states, including Montana.

The ETS will cost $50 and gives students two chances to retake the test at no additional cost. Tests can be taken by computer or on paper.

@NPDXReporter I think I'll start strategically calling it "pre-lunch" too, and then "forget" to eat my real lunch later. #dessertforlunch
