State Secretary Reminds Residents About Upcoming Election

By Beacon Staff

Secretary of State and Chief Elections Officer Linda McCulloch is reminding Montanans that September is National Voter Registration Month.

With the 2013 municipal elections around the corner, individuals are encouraged to register to vote or check the accuracy of their existing voter registration.

“If you’ve moved or have changed your name, now is a great time to update your voter registration,” McCulloch said. “Counties rely on accurate records to maintain efficiencies in the election process, which includes issuing ballots in a timely manner.”

McCulloch is working with Montana’s 56 county election administrators to remind eligible voters of upcoming deadlines for the 2013 municipal elections. Regular voter registration closes 30 days before each election, but individuals may still late register up to and including on Election Day for the municipal general election.

Late registration must be done in person at the county election office, or at the location designated by the county election official.

Dates to Remember

Municipal General Election – Nov. 5
Close of regular voter registration for municipal general election – Oct. 7

If the municipal election is being conducted by mail ballot, ballots will be mailed to qualified active electors 15-25 days before Election Day.

“Voting is a monumental right,” McCulloch said. “It’s important to not only register, but to cast a ballot in every election in which you are eligible to vote.”
