Stillwater Officials to Meet with GM

By Beacon Staff

BILLINGS – Stillwater Mine officials are traveling to Detroit to talk with officials with General Motors Co., which canceled a precious metals contract with the Montana company as part of its bankruptcy reorganization.

Stillwater chairman and CEO Frank McAllister and one of the mine’s five vice presidents plan to meet Thursday with Robert E. Socia, vice president of global purchasing and supply chain for GM.

John Beaudry, Stillwater Mine spokesman, says the company has no expectations going into the meeting, but are encouraged that it is happening.

The meeting between the two companies was announced last week by Gov. Brian Schweitzer.
