SWAT Team Responds to Brief Standoff in Hungry Horse
Man holes up in house until forced out with tear gas
Reports of gunshots in Hungry Horse led to the deployment of the Flathead County Sheriff SWAT Team and a brief standoff with the alleged shooter.
On Oct. 17 at about 4:50 p.m., callers reported that a man had approached a group of people in his neighborhood and allegedly fired several shots at them with a handgun. None of the shots hit anyone, Sheriff Chuck Curry said.
The man, identified as 34-year-old Hungry Horse resident Benjamen Davis, went back to a nearby residence. Responding sheriff's deputies established a perimeter around the residence, and the SWAT Team arrived on scene. Surrounding residences were evacuated, Curry said.
Curry said repeated attempts to call Davis out of the house were unsuccessful, and tear gas was deployed. Davis came out of the house at about 9 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident.
The sheriff's office is still investigating the details of the incident.
