Eleven football players from the Flathead Valley have been selected for this year’s Montana East-West Shrine Game.

The West roster features Glacier’s Kyle Griffith, Devin Jeffries, Rial Gunlikson and Reid Siderius; Flathead’s Matthew Tokarz; Bigfork’s Chris Landon and Josh Sather; Dave Cross from Hot Springs; and Polson’s Will Davey, Riley Sampson and Eric Williamson.

The Shrine game is an annual de facto all-star game featuring seniors from across the state. In its 67th year, Montana’s event is the longest running Shrine game in the nation. It has raised over $1 million for the Shriners Hospital in Spokane, Wash., where 20 percent of the patients are from Montana.

This year’s game will be played July 20 in Butte. Last summer the East won for the first time since 2008 and hikes its all-time series advantage to 37-29.

Les Meyer from Fairfield has been selected as head coach of the East team. Meyer has coached for Fairfield for 16 years and led the Eagles to the state B championship six times in seven years and the playoffs 11 of the last 12 years. Fairfield won the title in 2011. Meyer will get the opportunity to coach his son Tucker, who was selected for the game.

Arie Grey has been selected as head coach of the West team. Grey is a Powell County High School graduate who played in the 1997 Shrine Game and was assistant coach in the 2009 game.

Grey was an assistant coach at Butte High, Flathead and Glacier from 2002 through 2007 before becoming head coach at Butte in 2008. Grey led the Bulldogs to the Class AA state championship this year.

Players were nominated by their schools and coaches across the state, and finally selected as the “best of the best” to participate in the 67th Montana Shrine Game.
