Tester: New VA Clinic Coming to Libby

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – U.S. Sen. Jon Tester says the Department of Veterans Affairs has approved a new veterans outreach clinic for Libby.

Tester says the clinic’s goal will be to improve health care for the nearly 3,800 veterans who live in Lincoln County. It is the only Montana county served by the VA’s regional hospital in Spokane, Wash., rather than the one near Helena.

Veterans in Libby currently must drive more than 100 miles to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, or Spokane for VA. health care. The new facility will allow them to get some of their routine health care much closer to home.

Democrat Tester says the new Libby clinic is expected to open later this year on a part-time basis. It will be managed by the Spokane Veterans Administration Medical Center.
