Tester Says More Gun Control Unlikely

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – U.S. Sen. Jon Tester says he understands there are plenty of gun owners worried that there could be new gun control measures coming from Washington D.C.

But Tester says Wednesday that he doesn’t see it happening.

The Democrat says it’s a “pretty safe bet” he would oppose any gun control measures that come forward. And he believes there are too many like-minded senators and congressman to let such a bill advance.

Gun stores reported booming sales following the election of Barack Obama. Many gun owners believe that the Democrat’s support of commonsense gun control could mean a crackdown on everything from ammunition to pistols to assault rifles.

But Tester says he would be really surprised if gun control cleared a Congress focused on other issues.
