Three State Prison Employees Resign in Sex Probe

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Three female employees at the Montana State Prison resigned Monday after admitting they were involved in or had knowledge of sexual misconduct involving a male inmate.

Warden Mike Mahoney says that, during an administrative investigation, one employee admitted having oral sex with inmate Michael Murphy.

He says another admitted kissing Murphy and sending him inappropriate correspondence.

Mahoney says a third prison employee failed to report the inappropriate activities and impeded the investigation.

A fourth employee resigned in October.

Mahoney says a fifth employee is being investigated for policy violations, but not for sexual misconduct. The warden says that investigation may be wrapped up this week.
