By Beacon Staff

COLUMBIA FALLS – A Montana Highway Patrol officer was killed Tuesday night in a head-on collision near Columbia Falls.

The Highway Patrol says a person in the second car also died in the crash.

Patrol Capt. Tom Butler, in Helena, says it happened at about 7:40 p.m.

Another person in the second car was airlifted to Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

It was the second time within a year that a Highway Patrol trooper was killed in a collision. Trooper David Graham died last October near Kalispell when a distracted driver hit his cruiser head-on.
