Troy Looks Into Power Line Study
City administrator says work will need to be completed in coming years
After a power line fell in Troy in early January, the city council is looking into improving the town’s electrical infrastructure, according to administrative assistant Brad Jones.
“It’s just something we need to get on,” he said. “We’re looking at making the system better overall.”
The January incident is the second time in a year that a power line has fallen in Troy. According to Jones, many of the lines and poles are out of date. He said some pieces of the system could be 50 or 60 years old.
Jones said the city council is looking into contracting a Missoula-based engineering firm to do a power line audit that will guide the city in what repairs and improvements should be made. The engineering firm will also provide updated maps of the system.
How extensive the audit will be depends on how much it will cost and what the city council approves, Jones said.
“It’s not something that will happen overnight, it’s going to be ongoing,” he said. “It’s something that will be a long-term, five- to 15-year project.”
