UPDATE: One Dead, One Critical After Head-on Crash on Highway 2

By Beacon Staff

One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a Friday morning head-on crash on U.S. Highway 2 near Glacier Park International Airport.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Patrick Herman, the male occupant of a gray Nissan Sentra died, and the female occupant is in critical condition after the collision with a white minivan. The two passengers in the minivan, both men, were taken to receive medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, Herman said.

The victims have not yet been identified.

The emergency call for the crash came in at 10:19 a.m. on Friday. Herman said it appeared that the Nissan came across the intersection and collided with the minivan. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Traffic in all four lanes of Highway 2 was stopped as emergency crews tended to the victims. Eventually, emergency personnel opened one lane of traffic. As of 12:15 p.m., all lanes were open.

Traffic backs up along U.S. Highway 2 as emergency personnel work a multiple vehicle accident.

This crash marks the second traffic-related fatality in the Flathead this week; Amber Morgan McAtee, 38, died of the injuries sustained in a June 5 rollover crash on Highway 2 west of Kalispell.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: The fatalities on this story were initially reported as two due to a preliminary report from MHP.
