Two Sentenced for Holding Man at Gunpoint

By Beacon Staff

Two 20-year-old Flathead County men have been sentenced to five years in the custody of the Department of Corrections for their roles in holding a man at gunpoint while trying to get money from him after a drug deal went bad.

Joseph G. Leigh was sentenced Thursday by District Judge Ted Lympus, while co-defendant Jared Lawshe was sentenced on Oct. 12.

Leigh had pleaded guilty to felony kidnapping and criminal endangerment while Lawshe pleaded guilty to theft and criminal endangerment.

Prosecutors say Leigh and Lawshe were arrested in April, after Scott Bishop was kidnapped. Court records say Bishop was given $120 to facilitate a drug deal that fell through. The would-be buyers got $80 back from the expected source of the drugs, and sought the remaining $40 from Bishop.
