The youngest skier in X Games history became the youngest medalist on skis at the premier winter sports event.

Whitefish's Maggie Voisin, who turned 15 in December and became the youngest member of Team USA for the Sochi Olympics, finished second in the women's slopestyle finals at the Winter X Games in Aspen on Sunday afternoon. Voisin barely missed gold after an eye-opening run that included a switch 1080, a rare, spinning aerial that was first landed in competition by Canadian Kaya Turski two years ago. The run earned Voisin a score of 90, her best among three in the competition. Turski, a multiple X Games gold medalist in the slopestyle who returned from ACL surgery after only five months, edged Voisin with a 91.33 score.

It was Voisin's first appearance at the X Games. She earned praise as the youngest skier at the prestigious event, and the youngest medalist, according to ESPN. The silver medal for Voisin bodes well for the upcoming Olympics, where the Whitefish skier will be a top contender for a medal.

ESPN called Voisin "the biggest surprise of the day" after she nearly took tops in the event among the sport's elite competitors.
