Wanted Man Apprehended After Brief Standoff

By Beacon Staff

Law enforcement apprehended a local wanted man with a history of drug charges at a Kalispell hotel last week after a brief standoff that ended without incident.

The Kalispell Police Department Special Response Team, along with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and the Northwest Drug, took Christopher Kelly Ferrari, 38, into custody after on Dec. 12.

Ferrari had three arrest warrants out for him, stemming from a bail jumping charge and two counts of violating the conditions of release.

According to a report from the Kalispell Police Department, Ferrari was at a local hotel, and when law enforcement made contact with him via a phone, he refused to come out of the room.

Ferrari also allegedly threatened to shoot anyone who entered his room, KPD reported.

After three hours of negotiations, Ferrari abruptly decided to leave his room, and was taken into custody.

Ferrari’s criminal history in Flathead County goes back to at least 2003. In 2012, prosecutors charged Ferrari with felony conspiracy in the criminal distribution of dangerous drugs. In May, 2013, Ferrari was charged with two counts of felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, after he was pulled over for a traffic violation and was allegedly found to be carrying hydrocodone and morphine pills.

Ferrari failed to appear for a scheduled June 28, 2013 trial, and was charged with bail jumping in July 2013.

After his arrest on Dec. 12, District Court Judge David Ortley set bond at $50,000 for the bail jumping charge; $75,000 for the conspiracy for criminal distribution charge; and $50,000 for the two possession charges.

As of Dec. 16, Ferrari was still in custody at the Flathead County Detention Center. He has an arraignment and a status hearing scheduled for Dec. 23, and a jury trial for one of the charges scheduled to begin after March 31.
