Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park Celebrates 80 Years
From Sept. 14–16, Kalispell will host the annual Peace Park Assembly
Eighty years ago, Rotary International members from the United States and Canada joined hands across the border to celebrate the creation of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. From Sept. 14–16, Kalispell will host the annual Peace Park Assembly.

“Kalispell is excited to be hosting this year’s Peace Park Assembly and welcome our neighbors to the north,” said Pam Carbonari, former mayor of Kalispell and Rotary member.

The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park was first established in 1932 at the urging of Rotary Clubs on both sides of the border. On June 18 of that year, Canadian Prime Minister R.B. Bennett and President Herbert Hoover took part in the dedication that joined the two national parks as a gesture of international friendship and peace.

The anniversary celebration alternates between U.S. and Canadian locations every year and this year will include three days of speakers and events.

All festivities are taking place at the Hilton Garden Inn and speakers include International Peace Park Association President Fran Leggett, Glacier National Park Superintendent Chas Cartwright and Ifan Thomas of Waterton Lakes National Park.
