Whitefish Golf Course Aims To Open Next Week

By Beacon Staff

With snow patches still lingering on Whitefish Lake Golf Course, the annual opening of the golf season bumped a bit later than usual. As local golfers itch to hit the greens, late April snows wreaked havoc with prepping the course to open.

Whitefish Lake Golf Club aims to open the driving range later this week. If the weather cooperates, golfers can hit the driving range on Friday, April 18, and the north course on Monday, Apr. 21. “That schedule is still weather related,” cautioned Kaycee Link, the pro shop manager. “If it dumps, it might not happen.”

On the north course, the greens and tee boxes are clear of snow, but not the fairways. “There may be some snow people will have to play around,” says Link.

The club hopes to have the south course also open by Thursday, April 24, for the annual Ski Patrol Open Tournament – the official kick off for the golf season. The tournament, a fundraiser for the Junior Golf Team, has already been postponed from this week’s scheduled slot.

Golfers will find two new changes at the club this summer. The starter shack moved to the left side of the first tee box, and the new deck in front of the restaurant should be built this spring.

This spring, the driving range will be open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If the weather permits a Monday opening of the north course as hoped, the club will begin taking tee times two days in advance. Call the shop at 862-5960 for tee times.
