Two hours after the Whitefish boys stamped their ticket to the divisional championship game, the girls joined the party, knocking off No. 2 Libby 52-45 Friday evening.

The No. 3 Lady Bulldogs led for most of the game, relinquishing the lead in the second half only briefly at the start of the fourth quarter. Whitefish was led by junior Kate Klundt with 16 points and senior Ashley Ferda, the University of Montana recruit, with 15 points. Senior Chelsea Ray chipped in nine.

Jackie Mee, the sophomore sensation who finished ahead of Ferda for the Northwest A regular season scoring title, finished with 16 points, but only scored five after halftime. In the closing minutes, Ferda clamped down defensively on Mee, who is six inches taller, and didn’t let the Libby star get off any clean shots when it counted.

Down 39-34 to start the fourth, the Libby Loggers opened with two straight three-pointers, one by senior Brooke Hageness and one by Mee. Two free throws by Klundt put the Lady Bulldogs back on top, where they stayed for the rest of the game.

The Lady Bulldogs play No. 1 Bigfork Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the divisional championship game.
