Whitefish Squares Off Against Whistler in ‘Ski Town Throwdown’

By Beacon Staff

The Whitefish community continues to attract national attention and this time it’s from Powder Magazine.

Voting is underway for the magazine’s online “Ski Town Throwdown,” and Whitefish is facing off against Whistler in the opening round. The Throwdown tournament, with a bracket similar to NCAA March Madness, is asking Facebook followers of Powder to vote on their favorite places to ski.

Voting between Whitefish and Whistler is open today and tomorrow. The winner advances to the next round against Rossland/Nelson.

Voters first have to “Like” Powder Magazine before being able to submit a vote here. As of this morning, Whitefish was leading 35-21.

“Whitefish is a town of hard-charging, deep-turning Montanans who hold their local mountain close to their heart,” the magazine wrote in its matchup description.

Whitefish has received some nice national attention lately. In February, National Geographic dubbed the city one of the 25 best ski towns in the world. Whitefish made a pretty distinguished shortlist alongside towns in Italy, British Columbia, New Zealand and across the U.S.

Whitefish Mountain Resort recently earned its best ranking on the distinguished list of the premier ski resorts in the nation determined by readers of SKI Magazine. The annual rankings in the popular preseason issue feature Whitefish in 11th place, an improvement of 11 spots from last year.

Native Eyewear named Whitefish the winner of its nationwide “Locals Only Project” and recently published ‘Fish Tales, a catalog/journal featuring awesome photos and stories about the community. Here’s a great video on the project.
