Whitefish Winter Carnival Events Begin Dec. 17

By Beacon Staff

The Whitefish Winter Carnival – one of the best and weirdest times of the year – is getting revved up for the 2014 festival.

(If you are unfamiliar with the Winter Carnival, check out this story for some background.)

Winter Carnival is something you don’t want to miss, and it has earned the acclaim of many publications, including being listed as one of National Geographic’s Top 10 winter festivals in the world in 2012.

This year, Frodor’s Travel listed the carnival as one of the North America’s Best Winter Snow Sport Festivals.

According to the carnival’s Facebook page, this year’s events start up with the coronation of King Ullr and the Snow Queen on Dec. 17. Details on the time are forthcoming, but the event takes place in downtown Whitefish.

Following that is the Merry Maker, largely considered the official kickoff party for the Winter Carnival, which takes place Jan. 11. The annual disco party takes place Jan. 17, and Frey and Freya have their coronation ceremony on Jan. 24.

The main celebration weekend takes place Feb. 7-9, and since this year is Whitefish Winter Carnival LV(55), the theme is Viva Las Vegas, so plan your parade costumes accordingly!
