Fourteen-year-old freeski phenom Maggie Voisin, of Whitefish, tore up the competition Wednesday in Breckenridge, Colo., where her high-flying spins earned her the distinction as the top-seeded woman in the freeski slopestyle Olympic qualifier.

The Women’s Freeski Slopestyle Qualifier was the first of many slopestyle events to take place this week at the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships in Breckenridge, an official Olympic selection event in which athletes battle for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.

The qualifier consisted of 20 freeskiers, each taking two complete runs down the course, with only the best score counting. The eight highest-scoring athletes are moving on to the final on Saturday, at 4 p.m. ET.

The events will be live-streamed at dewtour.com and will be televised live on NBC.

Voisin’s winning run included a 270 onto the down rail, back 270 onto the flat down, a right 540, which she said is unnatural for her, switch rodeo 540, left 720 mute and a left 900 tailgrab.

According to a report at dewtour.com, Voisin accredited her mantra to her victory. “I have to remember why I ski – go out there to have fun and be like Maggie,” Voisin said. “I have to also ski with confidence and trust myself.” Going into the finals, Voisin said she wants to up her run, but would not elude to what that would entail.
