Twenty-six firefighters are battling a 25-acre wildfire on the west side of Glacier National Park, near Avalanche.
The Avalanche Wildfire was first reported at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and is burning on the northern slope of Mount Brown. The fire was most likely caused by lightning, according to a press release from the National Park Service.
Personnel from Glacier National Park and the Flathead and Kootenai national forests are currently battling the fire. Three helicopters have also been brought in to douse the flames, but windy conditions have made it hard to attack the fire from above.
Due to the fire’s location, the Avalanche Lake Trail is closed until further notice.
