By Beacon Staff

Sheriff’s deputies responding to a disturbance in Hungry Horse Sunday night found a 46-year-old woman who had been killed by multiple gunshots.

Jody Smith was pronounced dead at her home on 120 First Ave. NW. She was shot three times in the chest and once in the arm. Her husband, Charles Glenn Smith, 50, was immediately taken into custody and is expected to be charged with deliberate homicide today, according to a press release sent by Flathead County Sheriff Mike Meehan.

Deputies responded to the scene just before 8 p.m., when a caller reported that shots had been fired in the area. The sheriff’s department’s major crime scene unit responded to process the evidence. Jody Smith will be taken to the State Crime Lab in Missoula for a forensic autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.
