‘Wounded Warriors’ Visit Whitefish

Six injured servicemen arrived in Whitefish yesterday and over the long weekend will learn to ski with the Adapted Instructors at Ski School at the Whitefish Mountain Resort.

The event was organized and funded by area residents, veterans, business owners and the Wounded Warrior Project which provides opportunities for veterans who have recently been released from the hospital to participate in adapted recreational activities. The servicemen visiting the Flathead are Army and Air Force veterans who sustained injuries including single and double amputations, blindness and paraplegia while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Several public events are scheduled over the long weekend for locals to meet the Wounded Warrior participants:

Welcome reception at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at Grouse Mountain Lodge.

No-host reception at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6 at the Bierstube at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Dinner at Café Kandahar on Sunday, Feb. 8. Limited dinner reservations are available.

Farewell dinner on the Tues., Feb. 10 at the VFW Montana Lion Mountain Post 276.
