While I understand that there are those who believe hunting wolves is necessary to protect livestock, doing so with traps is one of the most inhumane methods of doing it. If you must kill any animal at the
very least do it quickly & cleanly, rather than forcing them to endure the pain & suffering of a trap.
By jimbo on 05-09-12 @ 7:25 am
I agree 100% with you. If you are going to kill something, kill it. But the commission is not going to legalize the use of snares. Snares kill very quickly.
With that said, I just took the trapping course offered by FWP. I had no idea about much of the
traps that are used. It is important that with the new “offset” foothold traps, the animal does not
loose feeling or circulation. It is just held, there are also no sharp edges to cut the skin. They
actually lay quite calmly. It is also important to note that these foothold traps are used by
biologists to trap and collar these wolves, obviously imortant to them that injury and suffering
are not an issue. So my mind was changed quite a bit by talking to the trappers and taking the
course. But you need to go in with an open mind as well.

I worry, very much, about our dogs. Trappers cannot come on private land, but they do follow the waterways. They claim to have the right to work from the shores. Laying traps is a cruel, and
wretched way to operate. I do not want to find my dog in a trap. This ambition to kill wolves has
gone too far. It is politically motivated. Men think they need a gun and a wolf to be a tea partier. It is
crazy that the animals pay for political animosity.

Your absolutely right Getman…now Montana is no longer safe to walk anywhere. These traps that are to be allowed are much bigger than muskrat traps (that got my dog) and will be very
dangerous for us all! How many wolf hunters will be roaming the woods too shooting at
anything that moves, including my dogs!!! No, we can no longer trust our government to use
sensible means to handle OUR natural resources. This was rigged from the start with MONEY!
By CJ on 05-09-12 @ 10:14 am
And Jimbo…if you think an animal is going to “lay there quite calmly” while it’s foot is caught in a trap you are sadly mistaken. IT HURTS!!! My dog was in agony!!!
By Kokanee on 05-09-12 @ 12:52 pm
CJ you wouldnt be a part of that group that staged some photos by placing their dogs foot in adisabled trap are you? I would say that of all the organizations encountered, this particular
footloose has out and out lied to the general public about trapping more often than not. It was
proven last year that some footloose participants staged photos of their dogs in traps to
inflame and scare pet owners into signing a bill restricting trapping to private lands.
Please do not fall for all you hear, trapping is actually how we got these canadian wolves here
in the first place. So if it is so horrific then how on earth did the original wolves live to
prosper?
By Kokanee on 05-09-12 @ 1:52 pm
Wow look what I found more mis-information I guess.Soon these wolves and many others that went through similar ordeals were on their way to Idaho
and Wyoming. Canadian trappers received up to $2,000 for the capture and radio-collaring of a
single wolf. The wolves these trappers captured and tagged will be tracked by United States Wolf
Reintroduction personnel by monitoring the radio collar signals to locate and tranquilize the
animals for their relocation to Idaho and Wyoming.
Sorry I did not know we were playing semantics my error, what I should have said was scare
tactics on pet owners to sign petitions in order to sponsor a bill to restrict trapping to
private lands. Twist it any way you want, these groups whole agenda is to abolish hunting and
trapping. Your agendas much like your slip is showing. Tissue…...Crybaby

Oh and I left out that condesending attitudes will always be spread by liberal overeducated nocommon sense democrats.
By CJ on 05-09-12 @ 2:26 pm
Kok or Kook whichever, you are BEYOND ridiculous (whatever is beyond?) with your stupid allegations that ANYONE would put a dogs foot in a trap to stage the agony they go through
when they are caught!! I HAD NEVER SEEN A DOG CAUGHT IN A LEGHOLD TRAP
BEFORE and it took all the strength I had to pry it open AND it was right outside my back fence
in a pond!! MY DOG WAS IN AGONY and THAT’S when yes, I joined Footloose Montana and
yes I fight against ALL TRAPPING! With people like you and the other weirdo’s out there that
have threatened people’s lives, it is no wonder this issue is now national! You and your kind
are an embarrassment to the Great State of Montana! God forgive you Kook, you just don’t
know any better!!!
By Kokanee on 05-09-12 @ 2:49 pm
Oh my word, you got me dead to rights I admit everything. It’s all false I just make it up,there is no hope for me. I did not research what I quoted from B.C Govt. or Alberta you know
those Canadians. I am no match for a wordsmith like yourself. I will just slink back to my hovel
and let this board be controlled by some one that is far better at twisting and spinning a story
than myself. Pemmican
By Kokanee on 05-09-12 @ 3:06 pm
Well that is funny CJ I say the same about you. There are people like me CJ all over the statewe do not let our dogs run free we do not let our dogs off leash in national forest we do not
let them chase wildlife. Your group has been caught staging photos with a DISABLED FOOTHOLD
TRAP! placed on a dogs leg. I do not know the details of your experience nor do I care, you
cannot ban trapping in the Great State of Montana so keep your dogs in your fenced yard and out
of potentially dangerous places.
By RussCrowder on 05-09-12 @ 3:47 pm
To keep the “Green’s” happy, they should only allow wolf trapping if they use fawns for bait.
By CJ on 05-09-12 @ 4:00 pm
You just keep proving over and over your inability to become civilized.
By Kokanee on 05-09-12 @ 9:27 pm
I will narrow it down even more Tissue dial 752-5501 ask for Kent Laudon our wolf managementspecialist. Ask him about live trapping wolves with leg holds. I swear for being as educated as
you make out to be you really do not know squat. Live trapping with footholds is used all over
the world to gather blood and tissue samples from all sorts of animals. They also transport
animals they have caught to other areas to augment breeding or replace animals they have lost.
Why is it so far fetched to believe that trappers were not part of this equation.
By Yudamni on 05-10-12 @ 7:21 am
What’s the big deal about trapping? How do you idiots think the fishngame has controlled thecoyote population for the last 100 years or so? Aerial hunting and coyote getters are needed
every year. Oh and the coyote season has been extended without tags to 52 weeks.
By jimbo on 05-10-12 @ 3:58 pm
Cj, they struggle in the outset, but they calm down pretty quickly. I don’t expect you and your fragile emotional state regarding trapping to be able to have ANY sort of dialogue about this.
So your dog got caught in one. You act like the woods are a mine field of traps. The problem
with people your age is that you think everything you see and read on the internet is real. I
have had to explain to my 70+ year old mother several times that 99% of the internet is CRAP,
mostly taken out of context, if not outright lies.
Hankie, did you happen to listen to the commission meeting today about wolves and the
tentative regs? There was a guy that testified about his trap being stolen, he found the woman
that stole it, and saw the contrived pic she used with her dog and HIS trap. It’s fact.
The sad thing is, like I have said over and over. More wolves will killed by FWP and or federal
trappers and shooters, than would normally be killed by MT hunters if that idiot foreign wench
and her footloose bunch get their initiative passed. MARK MY WORDS. If you back FWP into
a corner, they will just flat start removing packs. I promise. Its a classic case of not leaving
well enough alone.
And furthermore, CJ, get your law passed, the hard core trappers aren’t gonna stop. They
operate so far from anybody, your bunch will never know.
And whomever was whining about the waterways, the high water mark does not apply to
trapping as it does fishing. FYI
By mitch on 05-10-12 @ 5:57 pm
and you jimbob are a condescending jerk. Are you generally that rude or just when your hiding behind the screen of your mommy’s computer? You keep coming up with your phoney little
story about the “staged picture”. Give us a link here, or quite wasting our time. You obviously
have no information worth sharing and are just one of the hysterical anti wolf freaks who have
nothing to share but their threats and misinformation.
By Fast on 05-10-12 @ 8:45 pm
All three of my neighbors that are alway whining about wolves all have a bumper stickers on there trucks that read. ’ smoke a pack’ referring to a pack of wolves. None of them went into the field with a wolf tag this year. I
suspect that there a lot more people here that talk the talk but don’t walk it. If the Apaches in Arizona can get there
wolves under control using compound bows you would think these clone hunters could fill the wolf quotas.
By Kokanee on 05-11-12 @ 12:54 am
Mitch now you know that was all over the Missoulian blog last year. Do not pretend you are noton there as well. It was about the same yadah yadah almost verbatim, footloose staged it you
know it why pretend.
By mitch on 05-11-12 @ 6:51 am
. Seen nothing anywhere before on this, and taking info off a blog? Please! As jimbob himself said, “99% of the internet is CRAP,
mostly taken out of context, if not outright lies.” If you got facts present them, otherwise your
words aren’t worth reading. If someone staged a trapping, let’s see some proof.
By jimbo on 05-11-12 @ 7:47 am
Hey mitch, I am a condescending jerk? Listen you little pillow biter, if you have ever read or paid attention to anything I have ever said, you will know I do not hold the same passionate
disdain for wolves than most hunters have. I have come down on hunters for doing stupid crap
as much as anyone. I have told a lot of people to steer clear of the internet crap put out by wolf
haters such as saveelk.com, biggameforever, and sportsmenforwildlife. They are on the same
level as footlooseMT, and defendersofwildlife. Profitting from wolves, just on the other end of
the spectrum.
Pay attention!
By CJ on 05-11-12 @ 2:53 pm
Great idea Hankie..tags are only 19.00!!!
By Yudamni on 05-11-12 @ 11:22 pm
Hankie thank you for your comment. I appreciate your fine insight. I guess us old timeMontanians are the only ones to know what a coyote getter is. It is a baited device that
explodes cyanide directly into the coyotes mouth when he bites it. CJ should obey the county
leash law or some one will report her to the humane society.
By mitch on 05-12-12 @ 7:55 am
And THIS would be the county leash law
“Running at Large” means any dog which is off the premises of the owner and is not under the
immediate and continued control of its owner or an authorized agent of the owner either by
leash or voice and/or signal control; or by complete confinement within or restraint upon a
vehicle. Dogs controlling or protecting livestock or in other related agricultural activities, are to
be excluded from this definition.”
Key words here.. “either by leash or voice and/or signal control”. Most people’s dogs are
under voice control. A leash is not usually necessary, especially when hiking, etc..
By CJ on 05-12-12 @ 9:26 am
Thank you again Mitch, the ONLY place leashes are required is county parks NOT county land. But trappers are allowed on county land!!! So all of us that walk our dogs on COUNTY
land are at risk ANYWHERE in the county. And by the way what in the world does
the “humane Society” have to do with policing…CJ should obey the county
leash law or some one will report her to the humane society…. Again, the lack of education
and mental retardation of these people never cease to amaze me!
By montanaeasy56 on 05-15-12 @ 6:58 am
I see dogs all the time who are ubder “voice control”. The owner screams and hollers at the mutt while the mutt continues to ignore the “voice control” and continues chasing a deer, a
rabbit, or whatever the hell it wants to do while the owner has it under “voice control”. What a
laugher that is…Voice control…he hawwwwww
