One of longest-running stores in downtown Kalispell

Seen happen before.

The bell tolls for thee.

When the new mall is built and it will be, it will have a bookstore surrounded by the stores that were once in downtown Kalispell. As much as I know the new mall will kill downtown Kalispell, it will bring Canadians here in numbers never seen before. The high line and surrounds will come too. Main street will be empty for ten years before it becomes renewed with chic shoppes. The history of small town America will be repeated right here in NW Montana. Smart money will move to the mall and then later buy up downtown in about 5-8 years when prices are at their bottom and rent will be giveaway. Then one little designer shoppe at a time with a little French restaurant next door will appear before it becomes “The Place” to be, be seen and shoppe.

Nice story, Beacon. Jo Ann Jensen, you are one beautiful lady. I’ll miss your store and your friendly face, but I hope you enjoy a well-deserved rest.

By the way on…...I agree, however the solution is very simple and has been done in all areas around the country. You take first street west and first street east and make them a “one way” north and the other a “one way"south. You close the main street so it handles foot traffic only with some new outlets for small vendors in the “center” of the old street. add a downtown parking garage for the downtown, and there it is just like thousands of other downtown areas that have been raped by large mall’s and the ugly “Strip mall’s”.
The only problem with this is that it woulnt happen due to the “greed” of the few, The so called “Bi-pass” is a JOKE….the only reason for doing it is so a few greedy people to buy up land so they can continue to develope strip mall’s and destroy other areas that are effected by such piss poor planning…...
