It’s part of the charm of the town. We need to save it and crank it back up when the fire station moves. It’s things like this that make Whitefish special and keeps us from being like Every Town, USA.

It is a nice touch to the town, but as someone who lived a block away from it, I wish it had come sooner!! 

There’s nothing quite as frustrating as when you are trying to get some needed sleep because you have a very early morning of work and you get woken up by that siren.  I can appreciate history, but I appreciate my sleep a bit more!

[siren]: Wooooooooooooooo!
[me, to whoever was around]: Hey, what time is it?
[whoever was around]: Yes, Donnie, you’re very funny.

I will miss that.

Stella: let me get this straight. You decided to live by the airport but hate the sound of the jets? Damn those jets. They need to go. Okay, you don’t live by the airport, you live by the train tracks. Damn those trains. Okay, you really live by the hospital. Damn that medivac helicopter. Okay, you really live by the church, damn those Sunday bells. Okay, you really live next to the elementary school, damn those noisy kids. Okay, you really, live near the fire station, damn those sirens. Okay…............... Maybe you chose to live near where there is something .............. never mind. You won’t get it but the other readers will.

  Well, funny how when you move somewhere you go to look at apartments in the day time.. Maybe it wasn’t mentioned by anyone until my first night in town and I get blasted away with it?  It did come as quite the surprise…  I got used to it though.. it was just slightly annoying every once in a while when I needed to be in bed before 10.

I do so miss the siren. It is really a unique part of Whitefish and history. I have listened to it for almost 20 years. When I have been asleep I have not heard it and when I have heard it I am reminded of the WONDERFUL place Whitefish Montana has in my life. I hope when the move occurs the siren will be reinstated. I also LOVE the church bells.

What a sad, sad day. I grew up listening to that siren and knowing that if it sounded, I’d better be at home, or at least on my way. I understand the firefighters need to get their rest so I certainly hope that in the future, when the new fire hall is built, the siren will be turned back on.

What about letting the siren go at New Years eve. Opening day at wfmr (big mt) and then adapting it by mounting a wind generator on top to power the fire dept.
