It’s rather amusing to see the ire of these property owners over the latest state reassessments.  These same people benefitted greatly as property values soared over the past six years.  They simply object to having to pay reasonable and uniform taxes on their unearned gains.  The solution is really quite simple.  If your taxes have risen to the point of intolerability, sell you property, pocket your gains and go live somewhere else.

dsrobbins; Wrong. Where’s the gain. That I’m alowed keep dry at night? Some of us are not in our homes to make a profit. I need a roof over my families heads. I buy land, Build a home. Move in. Then the values go up and the tax pigs want more money. I have not recieved any money for the home. I am living in it.

Mr. McDowell’s comment about local residents deserving a lower tax rate is bs.  We grew up in Montana and have owned property there while living in Oregon for the past 30 years.  Even though we pay taxes in a different state, the majority of our Montana property taxes go to send Mr. McDowell’s kids to school.  Why should a resident who gets 90% of the tax benefit get a discounted rate? We never even got a thank you card for educating Mr. McDowell’s children.  Actually, what would be most fair is an out of state owner’s discount.  I think I may start a class action suit for that one. “Oregon resident for fair Montana property tax treatment”.
