Comments on: Another Highway 35 Truck Wreck, but No Hazmat Spill
By hwy 35 regular on 04-20-09
I drive that stretch every day- About half of the truck drivers are safe and courteous- the other half drive too fast! Usually it’s the logging trucks. Those are the trucks I notice on my drive the most- Something should definetely be done about regulating commercial traffic on the east shore of hwy 35 - Mabey when another haz-mat incident takes place- luckily it didn’t happen this time.

So, what happened? Was there any reason explained why a truck and trailer and pup just suddenly overturns? How do we take a stand on whether or not trucking is safe there when we can’t get a clue why this happened? Did somebody fall asleep? Swerve around a squirrell? Wheel fell off? Or is it really a dangerous stretch of road? I drive that road a lot too and I agree with “regular”. One hundred percent, even though some of my best friends (used to) drive log trucks there.

another local newspaper reports that the driver swerved to spare a darling little deer

As one of the people that stood on Hwy 35 flagging traffic for the accident yesterday, I can tell you the drivers of the passenger vehicles and not the semis were the more impatient and discourteous drivers. And the speeders.

Ex trucker here asking truck drivers, fleet owners and the like to call a little safety meeting immediately. Maybe the advice I was given thirty years ago isn’t passed along anymore. Correct me if I’m wrong, but professional truck drivers with experience and those listening to advice DO NOT SWERVE YOUR RIG OR SLAM ON THE BRAKES FOR A DEER. Hit the damn thing and live to laugh about it. This accident could have been a lot worse.

Matt, I thought too that this was probably a convenient excuse. Easier than saying he wasn’t paying attention, or whatever. Just my thoughts.

When I drove by the accident there were two pups and the big trailer in the ditch.
