Baucus has always stood up for Montana’s needs when it comes to federal legislation, and I hope he will continue this pattern in his work on the climate legislation. The carbon cap bill (American Clean Energy and Security Act) that passed the House this summer offers major benefits for Montana. It would create 6,000 new jobs in our state’s clean energy industry, when combined with the incentives from the stimulus bill, and equally as important, it would protect Montana’s 30,000+ jobs in the wood products, hunting, angling, and agriculture industries from the damages of climate change. We’re not going to find that kind of job growth and security in too many places. Montana’s economy needs both Baucus and Tester’s support on carbon cap legislation for the Senate.
