Comments on: Do You Plan on Reading Sarah Palin’s New Book, ‘Going Rogue?’
Let’s be civil.
The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail webmaster [at] flatheadbeacon.com.

The views expressed in the comments section do not reflect those of the Beacon.

It’s refreshing to see that more than 80% of local area people have no intention of reading Sarah Palin’s ghost written book.  It suggests most Montanans are intelligent enough to recognize trash when they see it.

Ya know, Jeff.  That reads like a threat of personal harm directed at dsrobins.  I hope the Web Master here sees this, deletes it and closes your posting ability here.

Kalispell Native you’re no better than dsrobins.  Reveal your name and lets have a person to person debate.  If my blog was a threat to dsrobins, then with your logic, dsrobin’s blog was a threat to Sarah Palin.

It appears to me that there is a group of far lefties blogging against anything conservative that don’t have the guts to say who they are.

Jeff:  You’re nothin but a low rent bully who thinks that the only way things can be done is the way YOU have decided they should be done.  I guess you’re not as big on individual freedoms and liberty as would like people to believe.

The book was given to me as a gift and I plan on reading it. I can understand how many view Sarah Palin to be an interesting and compelling individual who has a non-traditional role in very challenging times.

Alice: Don’t forget to take a look at the AP’s fact-checking of the lies her ghost-writer spews on her behalf.

Here’s one early distillation:

That sounds interesting, but I don’t put a whole lot of stock in the AP. I’m fairly certain I can read Sarah Palin’s book objectively, just as I read Barbara Olson’s book about Hillary Clinton objectively. I appreciate your suggestion however; it’s only right to be fully informed.

hey jeff not to pick on you in particular -  BUT we on the left have been threatened MANY times on this site -

and the rightwingnuts that do the threatening NEVER use their name -  they hide behind a screen name also - what s the point?

and History has shown it’s the rightwingut kooks that do the shooting

from jesus to lincoln to FDR (luckily you missed) to mlk to kenedy to yikzhak rabin to gandhi to lennon - it’s the left that takes the bullets and the right that delivers them!

YOU freaks in the right are the violence filled ones

just like you shot the DR tiller IN A CHURCH!

that about says it all
and if you rightwinguts were PROUD of your bigorty and zenophobia WHY did you wear white robs over your heads?

I believe if people would be required to say who they are on this comment site that the comments would be much more civil.  I think it would be much better if the comments on these sites were a lot more about the substance of an issue and a lot less about attacks on people and there reputations.

It is easy to accuse people of things when you do not have to reveal who you are.  It is much more difficult when everyone knows who you are.  For that reason, I think the Beacon should require commenters on this site to have to reveal and admit who they are prior to posting a comment.

Occasionally you do skirt a good idea.

Now THAT’s a bundled package I WOULD buy:

“The Audacity of Hope ” and “Going Rogue”.

I see your point but, Why would you want to introduce more random elements into your life?

Have you considered the fact that the anonymity here keeps the animosity of the posters you yourself cite contained in the virtual world, under the eyes of the moderators?

Your idea could allow arguments to escalate into the real world with damaging consequences.  At least when we walk away from a disagreement here—that’s the end of it.

You have a valid point as well and I can see it from your perspective.  But looking through these comments on the many stories, I really enjoy the discussions when they relate to the issues at hand.  I like it a lot less when we attack each other.

One final point, it seems to work pretty well when people have to state their names on letters to the editor in News Papers.  I guess maybe on this one we will have to agree to disagree, but again, I do see your point.

Yep.

It’s the constant back and forth on the forums (as opposed to a letter to the editor) that makes this an interesting place to be.

But it also creates the tit-for-tat responses that can escalate.

Have you noticed how forums tend to get shut down once they pass a certain number of posts?

Happy Thanksgiving.
