Schweitzer: "One of the most dangerous fires in the history of Montana"

This could be a tragedy of epic proportions.  How many spruce bark beetles may have lost their lives?
We need to get Keith Hammer on this right away!

Yeah, this is the Sierra Club’s fault.  Good, sound logic.  The article says that the fire
was “human caused”.  Oh, learn to spell.

While most folks would understand that the problem is not who started the fire but why the
fires are so bad, some ecos dont or refuse to understand.  The reason the fires are so bad is
Colorado had a much worse beetle kill than we did. They were not allowed to remove millions
of dead trees by the eccos constant suits. While I am sure Bigger and the other ecos would
much rather see not one tree removed and are fine with people dying and thousands of homes
destroyed I not. If we have to remove all the dead fuel to save one person I think thats the right
thing to do.

While I have the utmost sympathy for its victims, the wind-driven Ash Creek fire moved over
mostly range land so fast it consumed more than 100 square miles in the first 24 hours. Nothing
can stop that.
And while I consider myself an environmentalist, I too condemn organizations that sit in air
conditioned conference rooms 2,000 miles away and decide to launch lawsuits to delay or stop
thinning. But the truth is that there are so many dead trees from the southern Rockies through
to northern Alberta that even without a single legal delay not much could be done except create
a more-defensible space around cities and towns. And the fact that no one is willing to pay for
it means that not much thinning will be done in any case.
It will burn. Most people I talk to recognize that.

I have cousins that live in Roundup and ST Lands has been giving them ‘H’ for wanting to use their
logging equipment to dig a line around the fire, since it is not on their property, so they have been
watching them sit in fire camp, eating well and walking arond in new, clean fire shirts, since it
started.  Go figure, eh?
