Comments on: Eco-Vandalism Targets Valley Developments

Let’s be civil. The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail editor [at] flatheadbeacon.com. Vandalism is a favorite tool of the junk science environmentalist nutjobs.

“...... advocates social change through legal means.“ How hypocritical. Apparently assd is an individual or at most a few who haven’t thought things out. Their acts of criminal, felony vandalism only turn the community against them, damaging their own cause. They can think of a way to print a letter and damage property but can’t think of how much the community abhors such juvenile law breaking. He/she or the few, should follow their own doctrine and act out their stand within the legal means they want law abiding citizens to follow. They see themselves as vigilantes above the law. Heros. That’s hogwash and stupid. They are only fooling themselves. They’ll earn no respect for their cause, just disgust. Going after a green development further shows their goals and means are not well thought out. They’re fools if they think these illegal tactics bring about anything but the reverse of their objectives. There are strong public methods to make their views known that could sway people their way. This clearly, to any thinker, isn’t one of them. This is destructive to members of the community and internally destructive to their own cause. Fools! They could have been a legitimate force, now they’ll just be labeled and be punished as felony level vandals. No cause will be mentioned as their sentence and requirements of retribution are handed down by a small local court. No recognition. No heroes. Just common criminals. Too bad they didn’t think their way through this and become a real, recognizable force. Now their just thugs with a spray can. Losers!

And tell them how much they SUCK.

Let’s see.  Who is the eco terrorist here?  Fako developer and local drunk Russ Crowder dug up 10 acres of agricultural land up wind from my house.  He has made NO EFFORT to keep the dust from blowing as required BY LAW.  He has even left a huge pile of dirt about 20 feet high to ensure that every time it’s dry and the wind blows, toxic dust blows into my house.

If these parasitic developers don’t mend their ways, there will be a lot more than rattle can art in the future.  If you think pulling survey stakes is a problem for you, just keep it up.

Bill, calm down, the boom is over.  The developers & realtors can’t sell anything so they need to blame someone other than themselves.

Please publish the entire manifesto to see if a reader can identify the style of writing and train of thought.  That is how the Unabomber was caught. That is how an acquaintance of mine was caught for putting phony love letters on his own my space page to make his x jealous.
If the developers are willing to put up a reward we might find out how loyal the vandals friends are.

These irresponsible developers claim they don’t even have enough money to plant grass on the lands they disturbed.

Where is the money for a “reward” going to come from.

These whiny parasites deserve more.

The Beacon should publish the email address of this group.

I don’t consider sprawl developments within city limits. What about 2 acre ranchettes 15 miles out of town. Idiots.

Gotta a complaint with a developer that is not in compliance and causing harm to you? Do like I did. Sue ‘me. I did, won and got a dandy of a check awarded from punitive damages. Next time they’ll resolve the issue, settle out of court and make you whole again. #######’ get you nowhere except upset.

Zoning boards, city councils and county commissions don’t like to see developers or even private land owners violate the rights of others. It can be very costly to damage your neighbors. That goes for assd too. Take ‘em to court, you’d be surprised how quickly you will see results and return of your expenses as they try to settle.

Oops! Typo. Should have read, “Sue ‘em” not what was printed.

Have we really reached the point where petty vandalism (ie spray painting) is an act of “terrorism?“ Come on, give me a break!

These are “eco-terrorist”? Because they painted some signs? How about non-violent civil disobedience? How about vandals? How about using any other term that actually fits the crime?
Sure, vandalism is a crime. But calling them terrorists?
Please. This is ridiculous.
Terrorists blow up buildings, kill and maim innocent people and otherwise strike “terror” into the hearts of communities and nations. I highly doubt these irresponsible developers and their rich lawyers are actually “terrified” by some black spray paint and missing survey posts. Get real. The Beacon needs to be more responsible about reprinting this kind of garbage.

Were the colonialists “terrorists” when they defied British rule and declared independence? Was Gandhi a terrorists when he lead an illegal non-violent resistance for India’s independence? Was Mother Jones a terrorists for fighting for children and workers’ rights? Was Harriet Tubman a terrorist for illegally freeing slaves?

Sprawl is the real enemy: forever destroying productive crop land, increasing taxpayer-funded firefighting costs, jacking up insurance rates, blocking off access to public lands, etc.

Sure, what these vandals did was illegal. I’m fine with calling them criminals. But calling them terrorists is irresponsible, and completely over the line. Get a clue folks, if it wasn’t for those on the far-left fighting for our land, our liberties, our human rights, then the rich bastards on the far right would be steamrolling and paving over us and our forests at every turn.

I agree that the Beacon should tread carefully about the language it uses when referring to this group, if it is a group at all.

Furthermore, I also believe that these types of acts committed on a particular group should only have been done when all legal means to stop developers has been exhausted, but also within a reasonable amount of time.  Taking years to stop a developer in the courts is not “reasonable”.  I strongly do not believe that “those with the money make the rules” for the rest of us to live by…that view is certainly only made by those who have money to do it.

Also, radical acts like this one may be criminal, as some have called it here, but they are certainly not “terrorists”.  Property has not been damaged so far that it could have not been easily replaced.  The developer is out money, but that is the extent of the damage this “group” has done.

Sprawl is the real problem, as has been stated; it creates problems that inhibit the joy of living here in the Flathead.  It is a disease caused by those who succumb to greed.

Thanks to Big Floater and others for calling out Gatzke, Riley and others on their histrionic usage of the word “terrorist.“  While I don’t agree with the actions of the vandals, I certainly don’t condone reckless hyperbole either.  If the developers are interested in bringing an end to the vandalism—and perhaps having a constructive dialog—they’d be well served to stop throwing gas on the fire.

Regardless, if this ASSD “group” is communicating via email, they’ll be caught soon enough unless their tech savvy is a little more refined than their public relations abilities.
