Roadside Garbage: Going to see a good friend of mine in Marion last week…..was I surprised….NO. Closing the 2 green boxes sites in Kila & Marion….has sure ruined the road
driving to the NEW SITE….near Ashley Lake turnoff. Has it saved money….depends on
what the real costs are?? Scenery & garbage…..oh looks like ****.
Its not hard to see the landfill director decision to combine 2 sites into 1….is a failure in my
eyes for sure. Easy for the garbage truck drivers maybe….but, that is the only benefit.
The longer trips on a highway with speeds of 70mph mean garbage flies out faster, then
add to that the US 93 flying garbage along the roads near the dump….sure is very ugly.
The impact of closing 2 centrally located sites into one site on a major highway….was a
totally idiot short thinking mentally chanllenged decision.

As the world population get closer to 9 Billion people we will need more landfills and people will have to be displaced.

1st of all it seems odd that anyone would thumbs down most of these comments. If you cannot seethe connection between human population and garbage, you may indeed be ignorant enough to thumbs
down comments relating to this. Also, if walmart would stop using one plastic bag for 1 or 2
times to make your purchases appear larger than they are, that might be a good place to start.
Humans are dirty animals and this is just the beggining.

How about a land swap with current landowners near the dump? The landfill is the only county entity that MAKES money and doesn’t charge for it’s services.. Try dumping unsorted wastes in
any other state and you have to pay a hefty fee for the use of the landfill. Local residents don’t
seem to know how good they have it right now. Recycling your own waste would definitely cut
down on the expansion needs of the landfill, but locals have no desire to make that extra effort.
I am for an expansion with an equal land value trade.

How is it that they do not charge for the services and make money ? I need to find a business like that for a living.
Last time I paid my property taxes, yesterday, I paid for the landfill. $80.73, twice a year for each
property. When I go to the landfill site I pay again to get thru the gate.
The county closing down sites to reduce cost is going to make an eyesore out of our valley. It is a
knee jerk reaction to an old problem.
If you use their current thought process, why not close them all down and save even more money ?
Sounds just like the post office fiasco we just had. They need to revisit how they do business.
Addressing old problems with old answers is not progress.

Waterman: They recycle EVERYTHING and sell the product. I don’t know why you have been charged for using the dump unless it is for business waste disposal. I have never been
charged and I use it once a week for household garbage and yard waste as well as for oil
disposal.

I C B S- I am not sure how much they recycle and sell, but if they do then that is great. I am all for it. I use my business truck to go to the site and they do not descriminate household or business.
They charge me no matter what the origination of the debris.
The main point being that property owners do pay for the service. It is not free by any means. They
need to revisit how they do business and review their ideas about closing sites. 30 plus years
ago back east they closed down sites and raised their prices to haul waste. The end result was
that a lot of folks just quit the service and used the ditches to dispose of debris. Then they had to
raise prices again to clean the ditches. They just started a cycle with no end.
