Good, something needs to be done for sure. Just, hope the USFS….does not waste the 100 Million, then say some time later….we did not do it right. Having a workable plan in
place is a start. The use of prison labor, jail labor, etc….to spread around some kind of
beetle stopper….would help keep the cost down & make the “treated area” larger.
One simple (not so simple) idea is to CHIP INFECTED TREES….in place. Not haul them
down 100’s of miles of roads to the mills. Beetles can fall off or fly off & make new inroads
to unaffected areas. The chippers for back road logging are already being used….now, use
them in logging of beetle killed trees.

Considering our desperate need for JOBS, useing prison labor to avoid paying an already too low wage rate seems misguided. More like the third world nations our jobs are being
outsourced to, and another use of public money against the best inerests of the public.
However, useing prison labor could allow this good legislation to get past the Republican
blockade of anything positive in the House.
