Evel grew up in a tough town.  He was in a tough business. 
I remember him as a great guy.  He was generous, talkative, smart, street-smart, and a blast to party with.  He had a habit of reprimanding young people for not wearing safety gear on their motorcycles, it’s like that was his crusade.
So he had to fight back against the corruption and cheating that comes along with the business/sport he was in. 
I can relate to that.
