WE THE PEOPLE WANT Schip.  That’s why we overwhelmingly voted for it.

AND WE THE PEOPLE - by a margin of around 70% in this country want gov controlled health care.  WE want single payer health care.

NO longer do we want to have profits be more important than our access to health care.

AND of course Baucus is against the government, non-profit plan - he has taken more money than ANY OTHER SENATOR from the health insurance industry.

There’s nothing democratic about denying a huge number of Americans access to health care - it says it right in the Constitution”

  “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Notice it says establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, and promote general welfare.

THAT doesn’t mean profits over people - the mantra of the libertarians and conservatives.  They want their free choice to choose their health care plan BUT WANT TO STOP the rest of us our free choice.

THE majority of Americans want it!!!!!!

YES WE CAN!!!!!!

You cant’ stop progress - you can only slow it down thru corruption and authoritative laws controlling WE THE PEOPLE.

ALL I want to be able to do is to buy into medicare - the same health care plan every senior citizen has.

What the for-profit insurance companies are afraid of is that any public option will be so much superior to their over-priced plans - and far cheaper - that in a few years everyone will switch over to the public plans.

AS I said keep your plan if you like it - BUT don’t deny me my FREEDOM to make MY choice.

That’s the problem w/ the conservatives - they are either woefully unknowledgable in the FACTS or buy wholesale into the P.R. firms advertisements.

Besides we pay at least 50% more of our national wealth on health care while leaving about 20% w/ no access to health care AND we DIE EARLIER!

Our current health care system is one of “Profits over people” -

at least roark admits that.  He admits he’s more concerned about someone paintballing a billboard than about giving children access to health care.

What the conservatives lack in empathy they more than make up w/ their over-reaching greed is good mantra.

This week when the Congressional Budget Office issued a report this week concluding, from a partial draft of a Senate health committee bill, that the plan would cost $1 trillion over 10 years but only provide coverage for 16 million of the estimated 50 million Americans who are uninsured.They simply don’t have the money to change the health care system, overhaul the energy sector and increase domestic spending as part of the appropriations process — without imposing big tax increases or exploding the deficit. Something has to give.

@woody - the truth is, neither health care system works!  Socialized medicine doesn’t work, and neither does the present system we have now.  In both cases, people are left out of the loop in obtaining needed, timely health care.

The reason we pay more for health care is because we have a medical system that drives costs up due to red tape and third party decision making regarding health care. The HMOs that exist are not there because of free market demand, but because of government mandates.  The HMO Act of 1973 requires all but the smallest employers to offer their employees HMO coverage, and the tax code allows businesses – but not individuals – to deduct the cost of health insurance premiums. The result is the illogical coupling of employment and health insurance, which often leaves the unemployed without needed catastrophic coverage.

While many in Congress are happy to criticize HMOs today, the public never hears how the present system was imposed upon the American people by federal law. As usual, government intervention in the private market failed to deliver the promised benefits and caused unintended consequences, but Congress never blames itself for the problems created by bad laws. Instead, we are told more government – in the form of “universal coverage” – is the answer. But government already is involved in roughly two-thirds of all health care spending, through Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs.

For decades, the U.S. healthcare system was the envy of the entire world. Not coincidentally, there was far less government involvement in medicine during this time. America had the finest doctors and hospitals, patients enjoyed high-quality, affordable medical care, and thousands of private charities provided health services for the poor. Doctors focused on treating patients, without the red tape and threat of lawsuits that plague the profession today. Most Americans paid cash for basic services, and had insurance only for major illnesses and accidents. This meant both doctors and patients had an incentive to keep costs down, as the patient was directly responsible for payment, rather than an HMO or government program.

The lesson is clear: when government and other third parties get involved, health care costs spiral. The answer is not a system of outright socialized medicine, but rather a system that encourages everyone – doctors, hospitals, patients, and drug companies – to keep costs down. As long as “somebody else” is paying the bill, the bill will be too high.

We did have a health care sytem that was the envy of the world - that was prior to Reagan when most hospitals were required to be non-profits.

And the true historical reason for the coupling of the employer and health care happened under the Truman administration when truman was psuhing for universal health care and the AMA and the conservatives stoppped it.

We also had wage controls back then in the aftermath of WW2 and in order to pay more - but not more in wages employers started offering health coverage.

BUT I will disagree - I believe Medicare and Medicaide work very well. AND HOLD COSTS DOWN! They deliver health care w/ a 3-5% overhead administrative cost while the private insurance industry has a 20-40% administrative/ executive income overhead.

The public option is CHEAPER!

AND it holds the big all-powerful corporations feet to the fire.

Why are the libertarians always on the side of big business over WE THE PEOPLE?

This is a matter of individuals being in charge of their own lives and their own medical and health decisions. This is a matter of Dr.‘s and medical personnel being free to practice to whom and how they choose. This is a matter of an individuals right to his own money and his own life. The government has no right to claim ownership over man. Government is solely a protector of rights, or a protector of mans right to pursue his own path and choices. THE gov offers the ONE health care plan that actually gives all the elderly - everyone of them - regardless of pre-existing conditions - access to health care.

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again - HMOs need to be taken out of the picture completely.  We need a medical care system that no longer has the HMO Act, so that health care costs will drop, people can once again afford to go to their doctor without having to use insurance to pay for it, with insurance only being used for major/castotrophic procedures.  This was exactly the way it was before the HMO Act, when our nation had the best health care in the world.  This reduces costs for health care across the board.  Tying employment to health care coverage is illogical and ludicrous.  A system with no HMO/PPO companies would be way cheaper than the government or big business providing insurance to everybody - which is why this elderly noncoverage/pre-existing condition nonsense exists in the first place.  The reason for existing government programs that have such little overhead is that they are government sponsored!!!  Taxpayer money pays for it!!  Now who is using information to unilaterally support a point?

And the reason the gov medicare program works well is not because they spend gov money - We all know from the IRAQ WAR that the gov (especially w/ the Republicans in charge) can easily be the most expensive mode around.  BUT the medicare system works just fine thank you!  THE reason the gov medicare is cheaper is it doesn’t need to pay CEO"S millions and also give billions to the stockholders.  The paperwork for the gov plan is LESS than the corporate model - as the corp model is built around denying coverage to those that have coverage and in order to have costs reimbursed you have to jump thru 10 hoops - and the corps know people will lose paperwork and then they OWE for coverage they already had.
7. the rightwing has NO PLAN but to give the store way to the corporations!

@granny - exactly so!  Extreme liberals are hypocrites of the worst sort - and it truly sickens me when they use their rhetoric for fear mongering and disinformation.  This is the way they operate - they justify thir behavior in the name of protecting liberty - and claim that pursuing profit is evil and only destroys people.  I guess I can understand his point of view if I was dependent on the government for everything - but I always worked for a living, I became successful by hard work and dedication to be as successful as I am, and I never asked for anything from anybody, and for somebody to come along and tell me that I have to pay for someone else’s laziness is beneath contempt.

By the way, I do support medical care of the elderly who have contributed into the system through either their employment or contributions to a medical care account - they are entitled to health care because they paid into the system through payroll deduction.  I do not support care for those who want everything paid for by “someone else” - that is what caused this mess in the first place.

Of course, that is pure baloney. In a free market there is no limit to wealth creation, even in our current mixed economy. C)there is absolutely a limit to wealth creation.  Not only do you have no understanding of economics beyond some some “internet info” from a conservative site, but you seem unable to grasp even physics.  You honestly believe that you can just create wealth out of thin air?  You must have been a real estate agent or banker over the past decade… It takes resources to create things, physical resources are limited.  It takes labor to create things, labor is limited by time, location, education, and numbers etc.  Neither labor or physical resources are infinite, how on earth could wealth creation be unlimited?  How can anyone take your argument seriously?

People don’t have health care because they can’t afford it.  Not because they are too lazy.  You are not some magical frontiersmen of limitless work ethic while everyone else in the world are a bunch of lazy hippies.  If you are LUCKY enough to have health care, then you are LUCKY enough to be born in a country that has the wealth to provide it, LUCKY enough to be born in a country that provided you with safety, infrastructure, education, and an environment that provided you with a job.  I guarantee you there a millions of harder workers than you in this world (if not more) and they can’t afford health care.

Yeah and CBS polls are taken from their base viewers ( ie* Such as yourself )  I would deem that very inaccurate, for we are not in the same row boat as you.  For your INFO Woody, this isnt some professional wrestling match, I dont give a HOOT about parties, or popularity crud ( Cheerleaders worry about that in highschool, or were you there ?), Your whims would be better noted at a basketball game… I care about what affects me, and my family, what affects my neighbors,  This state, and what affects the constitution of this country. Just thought I would give a heads up on this new bill they are trying to pass through this friday !!!!!!!!!
Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants the U.S. House to vote at the end of this week on the Waxman-Markey National Energy Tax (House Bill 2454) I have not had the time to research this fully, but thought it was important to get the word out so that others can get a look at it too.  The common thoughts that I have been reading posted by others are : With gas prices climbing, the last thing we need is a new energy tax that will drive them even higher, nearly double the cost of electricity, and destroy millions of jobs every year for the next 25 years.Right now, Al Gore and all the anti-energy interest groups are buying television ads and mobilizing their activists to pressure members of Congress to support this job-killing bill.
The bill’s cost in taxes and jobs ,especially in coal-producing and agriculture-rich areas. It would cost the average household an extra $3,000 per year in energy costs and it is predicted the bill would cost 2.5 million jobs.“Not only will this drive up prices for food, gasoline, and electricity, it will ship millions of jobs to competitors like China and India that refuse to take the same approach,” Fax, e-mail and call your reps, to tell them “NO” to cap and Trade!!

I get internet thru Montanasky - which is a company where you can actually talk to someone - they aren’t some faceless multi-national corporation. Like centurytel for instance!

AND the CBS poll is NOT conducted thru their website or thru their viewers.

Saying something like that is just plain stupid. Or par for the course when dealing w/ the UNTRUTH SQUAD -

REMEMBER the rightwing’s main tenants of belief are:

1.. all power to the corporation over WE THE PEOPLE
2. greed
3. fear

AND - I currrently pay 500 a month each for myself and my wife - we have a 2500 dollar deductible each and then are required to pay 75% of the next 10k.

So if I get rid of my health insurance and pay thru taxes to pay into medicare then the rate is about 350 -400 per person -WITH Minimal or NO DEDUCTIBLES.

SO I am taxed 800 a month BUT SAVE the 1000 a month and save the deductibles - SO IN THE END I SAVE MONEY!
AND AM delivered better care than is provided by the “deny all claims the 1st time around” greedy health insurance companies.

I wouldn’t expect any of you rightwingnuts to understand that.

Also i don’t throw every corporation into the same boat - for instance Costco pays a decent living wage while Wal-Mart pays a indigent wage - when Wal-Mart shows up in a community the welfare rolls explode - and many of the welffarerecipients are working at wallyworld.

Once again the rightwingnuts have turned 1+1 into 3 thru their black and white all-or-nothing zenophobic world view.

keep up the corporate apologist BS and you’ll further drive people away from your party.  AND give me a break - YOU ALL ARE REPUBLICANS - you just drove it into obscurity and instead of admitting your abject FAILURE you hope people are not paying attention while you all backpedal like mad!

AND history has recorded that the belief of the corporation to do whatever it wants w/ the gov and to write their own laws over WE THE PEOPLE was defined by Mussulini in the 1930’s - it is called FASCISM.  AND it is EXACTLY the rightwings world view.
