Comments on: Frustrated with Montana Politics? Look East
By Barbarossa on 02-14-09
Central Europeans have a saying “Nothing good comes from the East except the sun.” This is based on centuries of conquering armies from Genghis Kahn, the Ottoman Turks and, most recently, Bolshevik politics and the Red Army, running roughshod and leaving behind altered cultures, genes,a devastated landscape and impassioned politics. The East Coast seems to have absorbed much of this strife bred outlook.
Montana has been fortunate that it remains relatively unaffected by the political culture of eastern style politics. Our wide open spaces and the hard work ethic for survival on the frontier still offer protection. Unfortunately, this is disappearing as the competition in politics seems to reward the nasty and not-so-nice. Times they are a-changing and the battle for the lone congressional seat is an emerging example.

Sounds just like what the White folks did to the Natives in Montana. How can you say Montana remains relatively unaffected?!....pretty one-sided view of history if ya ask me.

Tox: Yep, agree with you. Since I’m not a Native American I didn’t look at it from their perspective. But you’ve got it down pat. History tends to be ‘one-sided’ and usually from the vantage of the ‘victor’ rather than the vanquished.

It’s interesting that more news of this kind of thing happening in NY doesn’t reach the national networks…guess its not newsworthy enough, or, probably more correctly, its suppressed from national exposure by the state political machine…

Montana, in many more ways, truly is “the last best place”.
