Glacier National Park
Let’s be civil.
The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail webmaster [at] flatheadbeacon.com.

It was a bit annoying to see Nash’s little dig at us local yokels:

“I responded in superlatives, and asked whether folks here talk much about what’s happening with the glaciers.

“There was a pause and the temperature seemed to decline a degree or two. ‘God will take care of everything we need,’ one said.

“(A bartender at one of the lodges, not-authorized-to-speak-publicly-on-the-matter, confided that not all locals share these views.) “

Indeed. Everybody I know who loves Glacier Park is well aware that the glaciers are shrinking, and over at Many Glacier it’s part of every conversation.

I’m happy to see this story covered.  The state of Montana is stepping up to see that it’s natural treasures receive the credit that’s due. In Montana traditional extraction brought many of us to the dance, but over the past decades it’s proved to be un sustainable. I’m proud that the states leadership recognizes that our home is a place to share with other’s in a non destructive manner.  There is still a place for extraction but the “nothing here” concept is gaining in value.  Great job montana. To seem more of our great state, take a look at this presentation of the Rocky Mountain Front:  http://bit.ly/k5wKYD

Cheers!  Tony
