with a dead tourism economy after years of success, all that stands left there is an economy
based on gambling, minimum wage jobs, and entitlement hoarders. Herion is a sign of rock bottom
and the Flathead is on its way. Try and revitalize the spirit of the people before you go and
drop in a bunch of over priced boutiques, sandwhich shops, and brick walking paths.

A dead tourism economy? Someone is living in the past. You might want to pay more attention to
what is happening around here.

I lived there off and on for 15 years.. tourism? you mean the 250 mobile homes that park in
walmart every summer?
tourism is all the flathead has left and its not enough. I live where their are 140K people in
roughly the same land area and we see 2 billion a month in tourism… Kalispell might see 5% of
that per year… The canyon of meth leading to the park is an eye sore, all the empty buildings
are an eye sore, and so is all the graffiti.. Its going down slow but sure. Pay attention?  not
anymore.

Its only a guess, but I sure see lots of “grown men” riding bicycles around Kalispell, and the don’t
look like they are on the way to work. To me it what sees in a big city, and I sure have wondered
what they do for a living & also guessing….they would have roots to big city relatives & sources for
the evils of herion. In Evergreen area….sure see a lot of men that look out of place here.

That’s nice, brokenbutcher, but the facts contradict your opinion. Visits to Glacier Park are up
20 percent this year. In 2010, the park nearly broke its all-time record number of visitors, set
in 1983.

In today’s Beacon, chamber president Joe Unterreiner said, “the valley currently has the most
business activity in at least five years.” Motel/hotel occupancy rates have the industry happy
and talking.

According to an Beacon story from earlier this year, tourism revenue in the Flathead is expected
to be about $300 million. So, you are entitled to talk about a dead tourism economy after years
of success” all you want, but you would be wrong and you might get called out on it.

Kal. bee. it is still not enough. That part of N.W. montana is with or without tourism disolving
into a kids having kids, entitlement town. It depseratly is in need of education on birth
control, drivers education, and the consiquences of alcohol.
You can package up the Flathead anyway you want it. the bottom line is DUi’ arrests, traffic
fatalities, over crowded schools, graffiti, drug abuse and spousal abuse are at an all time high
for approx 120k residents. The roads are another problem. infrastructure there is unreal. empty
buildings scattered about, pot hole ridden streets, faded traffic paint lines etc… Lets get
some of that big tourist money and put it to work then huh?.

brokenbutcher, I’m not “packaging” anything. I only gave facts that counter your claim that the
Flathead has a dead tourism economy after years of success. I personally believe there is a lot
of improvement that can be made here. But you keep throwing opinions out there as facts and that
makes your argument unpersuasive.

FYI, DUI arrests and traffic fatalities are NOT “at an all-time high.” In 2006, there 30 traffic
deaths in Flathead County. In the last full year that could be counted - 2011 - there were 13.
DUI arrests have fallen nearly 30% so far this year over last year.  I’m not aware of anything
that indicates domestic abuse or graffiti is at “an all-time high” either, so your “bottom line”
is actually nothing but your inaccurate impressions.

not from what I see. I did not pack up and sell off everythng and run like Hell to get out of
there for no reason.
You can keep your little slice of paradise. Keep those ” I believe everything I read” goggles
on. I see and have seen everything I decribed in mass quanity. Dui’s, drugs and abuse have
affected 100% of the fine fokes that I have known and know there and its not due to teh company
I keep. My impressions are of 15 years of living in that place.. enjoy it. its all yours. BTW,
this post board is all about opinions. Those are mine.

The article quoted a drug task force member as stating this is a direct result of government
tightening access to perscription pain meds.I know this to be true as my significant other has
sever spinal problems and pain but suffers regularly, to tears, because she can’t get adequate
meds, even from the pain clinic.

There must be a better way to restrict access for abusers than this broad brush approach that
actually punishes the innocent, but only causes abusers to switch to an alternative (illegal) drug.

Doctors that test and verify need should not be pressured to refuse/reduce treetment just to
please some remote uninformed bureaucratic (political?) whim of the day.

Let me guess B.B., you now occupy a nice little cell in Deer Lodge.  You are very bitter against
our beautiful Flathead Valley, and me thinks you got yourself escorted out and “it’s all someone
else’s fault”.  It appears you are a very bitter person, I hope you get help for that.

I have lived in several different places in the United States and Europe.  Kalispell has always
been home and is where I will live the rest of my life.  No matter where you live there are
usually issues of DUI, drug abuse, gang activity etc… It’s sad to see this happening here but it’s
an issue in a lot of other places as well.  I’m sorry reggie that your significant other is having
trouble receiving the pain medicine needed.  Setting all these issues aside my opinion is the
Flathead Valley is one of the most beautiful places to live and compared to other places I have
lived, it is one of the safest places as well.  Brokenbutcher, you could certainly slam this place
all you want.  I don’t care.  Your advise about needing education etc is true, however, you
could certainly use a spelling class and learn how to do some real research.  That is my
opinion.

Agree’d Rivergal…Though I would trade that zip code and it’s dirty little secrets for spelling
errors anyday of the week.

Your link doesn’t work.  How come you keep slamming our hometown when it seems like you
don’t live here anymore?  How about concentrating on where you actually live and focus on the
issues in your own town?  It’s obvious we have our problems here but unless you are an active
person in our community you have no right to slam us here.  I’m a hard working individual who
loves this place and am active with trying to make things better by being involved and helping
while working two jobs.  Please stop slamming our community.  We are doing the best we can
to make things better.

the link has to be copied and pasted 1st of all. secondly, I have seen that town eat alive,
friends and family with all its charm.. working themselves to death at min wages that seem to
reflect 1980. It is like quick sand. once your in, you cannot get out. well I am. I just hope
those who want out can do the same..I lived there on and off for 15 years and behind the curtain
stands shame in regards to everything I have said.
Good luck ” doing the best you can”.. words spoken by someone stuck in the quicksand.

Brokebutt is very bitter for some reason.  We have to guess why.  He does have some valid points but
they are horribly negative.  You have to take it with a grain of salt.

First of all B.B. I am not stuck in a quicksand.  And you misquoted me when I indicated that “we are
doing the best we can” to “doing the best YOU can”.  Now that you are out of the quicksand I wish you
luck wherever you are.  The organizations I belong to work for the better of the people.  Perhaps you
can focus your energy on your community now that you are not a part of ours instead of lurking on the
Flathead Beacon and wasting your time on a community you no longer belong to.
