I’m confused. Are we supposed to say we don’t know what the impact of this will be? Or are we supposed to act like we’ve been covert economists, studying this for decades, and grimly and knowingly warn others to “just wait?”

Awfully sad that there isn’t a republican in office that I can say the same thing about - oh but only if it were Bush that had passed this law - then it would be all fine!  What Obama has done for America and its people is an amazing feat and for those of you who just can’t see past the evil, democratic “haze” you call “socialism”, I feel sorry for you.  When did the GOP and republican/conservatives start to hate America??

No wonder Obama is trying to push them all out.

Karl - another name for a “Revenue Anticipation Bond” is a “bond”.  Governments issue them for spending projects and the repayment is always dependant on “anticipated revenues”.  There are some upfront costs to a government project like, I don’t say an overhaul of the health care system.  As the CBO pointed out, the health care overhaul has long-term spending benefits that will decrease the national deficit.  It makes good financial sense to match an upfront cost to a long term benefit with a bonding instrument.  I haven’t heard anything about what crazy Ron Paul is claiming but issuing bonds to pay for stuff is a daily operation of the fed.  Twisting it into paranoid propagdanda that scares people is called fear-mongering.  Don’t believe everything you read.
By Native on 04-01-10
READERS RATED THIS COMMENT:

Again, I have not heard of this specific deal but it is common for other countries and banks to buy our bonds.  And its not like this is unusual.  This is how America has operated for the past 100 years or more.  We don’t run our country on cash, we run it on debt and pay for it later with growth.  Its how we became the largest economy in the world.  Just like in business, you can’t grow your business quickly without taking on debt.  In fact, in a competitive market, you might not be able to survive without debt.  Its the American Way and its nothing new.

If this bill is unconstitutional, than the Supreme court will appeal it and you don’t have to keep worrying.  Of course, they won’t because its not but you can keep stewing about it all you want.

Obama’s mother and father were so clever in their deception of him not being born in the U.S., that a few days after his birth in Kenya or Indonesia or maybe Timbukto, that they managed to get a birth announcement into both the Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Very devious and clever people they were.

What’s so comical about the birthers is that they never mention that their preferred candidate, John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone and his birth was never registered either with Panamanian or U.S. military authorities.  His citizenship is far, far more questionable than President Obama’s is, was or ever will be.

KarlM -

I liked your synopsis.  Don’t really agree with it, but its your point of view.

As I’ve said elsewhere, if your daughter becomes primary-care physician and serves in a rural or at-need hospital for a set amount of time I think her medical school debts should be *totally* forgiven.

I think we should make it extremely easy for good students to become good primary-care physicians.

BTW Since I cast the 1st stone I’ll answer…I MAY have some Marxism in me though I’m not sure.  It’s been a looong time since Philosophy 101 at MSU.

Karl - Rather than spend time debunking all of your conspiricy theories let me just point out that this is the reason people keep throwing out the race card.  Those of us that support the President can’t figure out why all these crazy irrelevant issues keep popping up.  They’ve never come up with any other president.  I don’t think anyone is being racist in the classical “we don’t like yer kind round here” sort of way.  I don’t think its intentional.  But there must be some explanation why the oppostion to Obama spends so much time trying to prove that he is “techniqually” not one of us or that his whole life story has been fabricated. Maybe they just don’t want to believe it.  But every time I hear conservatives say “we need to take our country back” I am flat out baffled to what they mean by that.  Take it back from who?  Who has taken over?  Its obvious that those people feel that Obama does not fit neatly into their perception of what & who America is.  In my view, he is a better example of what America is than any of our recent past presidents.  He parents were inter-racial, he lived poor, he experienced other cultures, he put himself through school, he worked with the needy and his biography is the best example out there of living the American dream; he not only rose up from a tough life, he became our friggin president by a popular vote landslide.  Most of our other politicians were born into high society with a silver spoon.  They don’t have any idea what its like to struggle and just make it.

I really don’t even think the recent anger from conservatives has anything to do with health care, thats just a front for a deep-seeded discomfort with change. At some point though, you guys should actually focus on the real issues rather than clicking your heals and wishing that you can get rid of him on a technicality.
By Native on 04-02-10
READERS RATED THIS COMMENT:

So you are under the impression that his life story is made up?  I think that is a good example of what a lot of conservatives are doing right now; doesn’t matter how concrete the evidence is they just shrug it off and say they don’t believe it.  Pretty frustrating to argue with somebody who is going to simply choose to believe what they want to believe.  I posted Obama’s birth cirtificate for you.  Are you going to tell me its a fraud?  The republican governor of Hawaii confirmed his birth as well as other state officials.  Even the doctor who delivered him confirmed it and all this was in 2008!  But I’ll bet your just going to denounce it all right? Its inconvenient for you accept it so your simply going to choose not to believe it.

Yes Karl, I am desperate for a hero.  This is what I “choose” to see in Obama: he favors the middle class, he doesn’t talk down to the people and he is always the smartest guy in the room.

Good question why 2 people can differ so much.  I’ve wondered about this a lot lately.  Probably a personality thing.  Type-A/Type-B personality?  Level of optimism?  Life experiences?  Check this out:

I am open, agreeable and unconscientiousness. I’m guessing your open, disagreeable and conscientious?  Stands out the most:  “agreeable people have an optimistic view of human nature”.

Karl - The second I first Obama promise to bring the troops home, I knew it was a mistake.  It was irresponsible for him to make a promise like that.  I feel that Obama is trying for transparancy but everyone else is making it difficult.  As for your cut & paste arguement, I think your source is a couple of nit-wits.

HEALTH CARE MANDATES STATEMENT:  In 2008, Obama wanted to do the health care overhaul much more drastically than what we ended up with.  Creating a mandate was a comprimise with the insurance companies.  Its not what Obama imagined back in 2008.  Remember Congress writes the laws, not the President.

Obama wanted the CSPAN coverage but its congress’s decision, not his.  Either way, nobody has ever confirmed the true reason for the lack of coverage.  His response to McCain was appropriate, McCain was grandstanding.  Obama was making it clear that they were there to work together and move forward rather than spend the day argueing over talking points and old business.

RAISING TAXES STATEMENT:  Really?  This one is silly.  Obama is talking about income tax, the author of this is talking about consumption tax and its taxes on 2 things that make this nation less healthy.

RECESS APPOINTMENTS: I’m ignorant on this one but I know the Repubs were blocking these appointments and it was hurting the country.  We were lacking representation at several spots that effect trade and commerce.  International negotiations were held about trade and our seat was empty.

Border security has been an issue for 100 years or more.  Obama expressed his opinion, he never committed to fixing the problem overnight.
