I have no problem with growth in the city, and smart planning.  As long as they build these things in the city and prevent sprawl into the out lying county we are ok.

I am concerned how the city of Kalispell plans to provide police and fire protection for yet another large commercial development.  It is very apparent that the police and fire department are suffering serious blows by Myrt Webb the new and acting city manager.  With the cuts these departments are facing, any commercial developer should look seriously at the risks associated with coming to Kalispell. There is a very good chance that Insurance premiums for commercial real estate could make a dramatic increase, if the Fire Department is forced to lay-off firefighters from is already short staffed department.  I would hope that any increase in insurance premiums are budgeted into the building of these new developments.

Walmart is a destroyer of competition.  This is what we embrace?  Look up the word monopoly, cheap Chinese goods produced by slave labor.  I would rather do without then support those bastards.

The LAST need on Hwy 93 N is a Super Walmart!!! It would be a disgrace to this “Last Best Place”. How sad it is being turned into everywhere USA!

I wont even step foot in the walmart we have already…why do we need another one? Times are tough, but we really need to start supporting our locally owned businesses, otherwise, the American Dream may as well be chucked out the window. Walmart isn’t the American Dream…it’s a friggin nightmare!

I would agree, the last thing we need is a super Wal-mart. Right now you have to take your life into your hands just go drive thru that area - what a mess and what poor planning for traffic.
As for cuts - “concerned citizen” you’re right - our police and fire depts are already short-handed. But please notice that even tho we’re short $600K in our budget the new bike paths along Woodland Ave went in this fall - don’t get me wrong, I’m all for beautification but not at the expense of city services.

I support the new “super” because it will bring shoppers into the Plaza.  What the locally owned businesses there need.
Hutton Ranch just isn’t “on the map” yet.
I do agree with some of the above comments, though.  I don’t like shopping at Walmart, either.  In fact I hate it.  But bottom line is, we save money by shopping there.  I wish I could afford to just buy everything carte blanche, but I can’t.
It’s hilarious how many shoppers in my store love it because it has so much more and better stuff than Walmart.  Then it’s maddening that other people expect us to be like Walmart.  No thanks.

I understand it’s a moral issue to many people to cut spending towards our fire and police department, but it needs to happen. We spend way to much on these departments which are not short staffed and quite mismanaged. This city of Kalispell is over a million dollars over budget as is! Budget cuts needs to happen now or they will happen naturally with much less sympathy.

City of Kalispell really went in the hole with their new “city hall” was cost a heckuva lot more than they told us. They keep spending on non-essential things, over and over. They always threaten to cut police/fire to scare the citizens.

I am excited about a new Walmart. As a many generation Montanan I didn’t move to the Flathead valley with a silver spoon… Many of you outsiders axed our natural and renewable resources industry - you drove home and land prices up so high we can’t afford to live here… and so yeah, I have no problem with a walmart coming in. It means cheaper groceries - more jobs - and more tax revenue to the city/county.
