Comments on: Kila Voters Turn Down School Bond Request

If you voted no to the bond you probably didn’t go to the building commitee meetings or take a tour of the school to see what you were saying no to. Do you know for an adverage home it would be less then a doller a day you would have to pay in taxes. You may say that they seem to be making it work over there. Yes we are making it work but it is not working. If I told you how many times kids have ran into a frige in p.e. you probably wouldn’t belive me. Next time this is voted on again please take a few hours out of your day to take a tour of the school to make an informed desion

I wonder if those who voted “no” are of the opinion that enrollment might drop sharply soon. I fear I would agree.
There is a general feeling about the future of this area, that being a concern that it will not fully recover from this recession.
Ask any mortgage broker what the value of real estate here will be like in about a year.
That trend of wealthy people thinking it’s cool to retire here has tapered off. Kiss a bunch of service and retail jobs goodbye next.
People I know are wondering why we need two high schools now. What are the enrollment forecasts there, anybody know for sure?
I don’t think anyone wants to invest in anything here for a while. Too scary. This town hasn’t got THAT much going for it anymore. Save tourism, better horn in there any way possible.

Lisa and most of the “yes” voters are missing the point. We do agree the school needs improvements. However the issue is with increased taxes and government waste, including federal mandates for schools. My pay has not gone up since 2005. Most people working “real” jobs in the private sector are feeling squeezed. But we have a federal govt mortgaging our children’s futures with spending and pork, no end in sight. We the people cannot possibly pay for all of this. To cloud the issue by stating “its for the children” or only a dollar a day” (to me, 365 dollars for 20 years, $7300) is a LOT of money. Multiplied by all the other interests promoting their programs, the strapped taxpayer will be bled dry paying for all of this.
Government is too big. We ARE paying for schools. Get the costly federal mandates out of the classroom and put our dollars back to work educating our children. Unfortuately, because the a lot of government institutions refuse to listen to the voters and pass spending bills anyway, how else is the average voter to respond other than to vote NO to more taxes?
