Funny, all of our northern neighbors that I have spoken to about their health insurance, were very unhappy with paying too much for substandard care. They come here for better health care, even if they are paying for it.

At least the Canadians I know don’t worry about going bankrupt because of one illness. My husband is self-employed and all of our hard work and diligent savings could be wiped out if he has one major illness. We pay big $$$ for basic insurance with a huge deductible and, since he’s not covered on a group policy, the chances of him losing his coverage if he develops any problems, is huge. I would rather than government coverage to cover basics or at least have better regulation of insurance companies so you can’t get denied coverage if you are a normal human being and you can’t be kicked off of a plan if you get sick. Most people who declare bankruptcy after a medical crisis have health insurance. That is not right. There is no way to protect yourself from financial disaster even if you do the right thing (like we do) and pay for coverage.
