There are more important issues to deal with.
The present library works just fine meanwhile.
I’d be all for doing the Tidyman’s deal if not for the contamination issue; but the slightest hint of the possibility of that being a problem freaks people out. Mr. Hilde tried to minimize the problem, but such environmental disasters are typical in all locations where he profited wildly throughout the sixties, seventies, and eighties. These things don’t bother him.
Let’s leave the library issue alone for now. There are others to deal with.

A government controlled, taxpayer subsidized, county library should not be on the list of what is an appropriate government function or smart use of taxpayer money now or at any time. It is immoral to use taxpayer monies for a “public” library. Taxes should only legitimate and proper use should be for; adequate personnel and rescources for the police and fire departments and disaster services, and the funding of the County courts. Anything more than that is government largesse. The county library has got to go. The bureaucracy involved is a non-issue in terms of its existence in the first place.

Wow! JD and Roark! Let me ask you one simple question: What makes up a community? You two are both so short-sighted and concerned for only yourselves that you miss the larger picture. Have you even been to the Library? Do you know how the library “feeds” and supports the children of this community? Do you even understand what an expanded library centrally located would do for our city?
Also, what issues are more important? Name some of them. This kind of rhetoric does nothing but under mind what is really important to the people of the flathead. Good riddance!

We use the library weekly. It’s my kids’ favorite hangout.
You don’t know who you’re talking to, JE.
Important issues would include the Bibler bike path, the revitalization of downtown, the supposed truck bypass, the horrendous meth problem, traffic safety, dust control, mosquito control, baseball park leases, low income housing, etc.
We have a good library. It could be better, but so could a lot of things.
Had one of the former library board members put just a tiny fraction of his own money where his best intentions were, we could have a library beyond our wildest dreams. His dear recently departed mother, God rest her soul, would be so proud. It wasn’t that important even to him, after all, huh?
Good riddance? I’m not going anywhere. My business thrives nicely here. Short sighted? Who just built a new store at the nicest, newest retail development? Concerned for myself? Which of us comments here regularly to help the narrow minded see your larger picture. I never heard of you. You don’t know who you’re talking to.
