Comments on: Long, Bitter Debate Ahead for Health Care Bill
By hotfishmt on 12-01-09
MAYBE COST WOULD BE LOWER….......IF and I say IF…...they can control FRAUD…..from so called suppliers of medical sevices. Medicare & Medicade are rampant with companies sending PHONY BILLS for ghost products.
If the Social Security Adm…..can’t control fraud invoices…..HOW IN THE HECK IS LARGER INSURANCE COVERAGE….....GOING TO STAND A CHANCE.
MEDICARE FRAUD IS EASY….......SO SAYS 60 MINUTES AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO STOP THE WASTE OF MULTI MILLIONS OF DOLLARS??
So…....3 years from now the GAO will say Billions are being wasted on fraud with the total coverage health care. And, from what I hear…....Canada has total health care…..and yet Canadians come to the USA for better medical care many times??
Its ges my vote if they STOP FRAUD.
Thanks

Obama Care will not kick in until 2014 well after the 2012 re-election season.
If Obama Care is so great : why wait until 2014 ?
The government could and should go after fraud now. No reason to wait another five years.
Obama, Max, and our other dear leaders will not force their families into Obama Care. They all get a better private plan.
Just like the other Ponzi scheme : Social Security.

Some parts of the program will start when signed into law. (You can look into it yourself if you want. The info’s out there.)
But yeah, I take your point..but probably for different reasons.

Vud,
You are correct, we start paying higher taxes now and for those of us that have small businesses we see an increase in payroll taxes immediately under the senate plan which means we may have to lay off somebody in the office. If we didn’t have a high payroll tax liability, we could hire more people. Our quarterly payout to the IRS is just crazy.

The real indicator of whether government health care will be good or bad for of us is how many Congressmen are willing to give up their present exclusive health plan for the new government plan they are trying to force on everyone else.
Recently, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a proposal from Republican Tom Coburn that would require all Members of Congress and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan.
Congressman John Fleming ( a Louisiana physician) has likewise proposed an amendment in the House that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan they force on us. (Under the current legislation they are curiously exempt! )
Contact Senators Max Baucus, John Tester and Congressman Dennie Rehberg and demand that they support these amendments to require our congressmen and senators to drink at the same trough as the rest of us!
You can learn more about Congressman Fleming’s amendment at this website. http://fleming.house.gov/?sectionid=24&itemid=238
If Congress forces this new health care plan on the American people, then Congressmen must accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.

You may be unaware that there is a full scale hospital/dispensary health unit inside the Capitol building. It is fully staffed at all times by doctors and nurses. If a Senator or Congressman has the sniffles, he simply goes to the health unit and gets treated. His/her family members can go there too. If preliminary examination shows that something more serious may exist, the health unit calls in whatever medical specialist is needed to perform further exams. If hospitalization is needed, the patient is whisked off to Walter Reed or Bethesda Medical Center. The Senator or Congressman pays the princely sum of $500 a year for the use of this health unit. Do you really think they are going to give this up and close it down? Don’t be naive.

dsrobbins: What you just stated is my very point. Why should princely politicians be allowed to give themselves all these exclusive health care benefits, at our expense, which are denied the rest of us? These “princes and princesses” obviously think we are their lowly subjects and they can do what ever they please because we are too dumb to do anything about it. If these princely politicians are not willing to give up their exclusive health privileges, then it’s time to recall them in the next election. In November 2010, 1/3 of the Senate and ALL of the House positions are up for election. We can all either sit on our butts and whine about it, or we can make it clear to these politicians we will NOT support them in November.

Rawhide’s suggestion sounds reasonable in principle, but it flys in the face of political reality. Members of Congress do consider themselves members of a privileged class, indeed they are to a certain extent. That is the very reason why so many people lust for high public office even though most are utterly unqualified for it. Sarah Palin is probably the best example of this in America today. It is naive to think that she or any successor group of candidates would do things differently if elected. Once these Congressional perquisites became established, they are virtually impossible to eliminate. Nevertheless, the vast majority of ordinary Americans will be better off if the health reform legislation Congress is currently debating becomes the law of the land. That’s what so enrages the Republicans and conservatives who are fighting so hard to block it. They have theirs and they could care less about the 30-some million who are less fortunate but equally deserving of access to quality health care. It will become a right, not a privilege as it is now.

And raise taxes….and once these people have to wait 6 months to get cancer treatment they will then understand what has happened. It amazes me that worldwide there is not ONE shining example of health care run by a government that has worked well unless you look at countries that have a minuscule population in comparison to ours. The Brits have warned us and we just won’t listen. I work with Canadians with work visas who have told me horror stories about their system up there.
At the end of the day, congress will be excluded from the health mandates they are choosing to write and pass. That should tell you everything you need to know about this mess they are creating.

...and on the ‘B’ side…
I dealt with a guy yesterday who was forced into foreclosure due to an auto accident in his family…
Lots of us in THIS country have similar stories as well.

Not this time mb.
I could tell he hated too be doing it, but a started spilling out his"sob story’ as he called it. To me. A perfect stranger.
Said even though he could ‘almost come current’ on his mortagage the bank refused to even negotiate anything but
the full amount.
So he was actually forced into bankruptcy…
BTW the house to the right of his was already a foreclosure and the one to the left was a normal sell…yeah, good luck trying to sell THAT one at a normal price.
I know, I know…We’re NOT our brothers keeper if it costs us anything.

Kalispell Regional ‘easy’ to work with!!? Riiight. That’s why they did a paycheck garnishment on a friend of mine, a single mom who was already making payments per her original agreement with them. THAT’s why I caught them overcharging my dad, when they had misdiagnosed his condition and caused grievous harm in the first place. And on and on…

From the dawn of human history, God has created loving souls and blessed each with the ‘imago dei’ - the very image and likeness of God. By grace, God endows those in the health care professions with the means and methods of healing. Only through a just system of health care can Jesus’ promise of life abundant (John 10:10b) be visited upon all persons.—- The Rev. Dr. Bob Edgar, General Secretary, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA [2002]
