Let’s be civil. The Flathead Beacon encourages vigorous discussion and lively debate, but we will delete comments that attack other readers, make accusations we can’t verify, stray too far off topic, criticize local businesses (call them if you have a problem), convict someone of a crime, use profanity or are simply judged to be in bad taste. We don’t always have someone moderating comments, so we ask for your help: If you see a comment that violates these ground rules, or you simply deem it offensive, please e-mail editor [at] flatheadbeacon.com. I don’t believe it is appropriate, nor an even playing field for the government to “compete” with private industry. I believe the private health insurance companies have, like the financial markets, crapped in their own nest. They are about to drown in thier own gluttony. The feds ought to either regulate or replace, not compete. As for which?, in this vastly changed world, I’m not sure. what used to be reliable evidence or patterns are no longer dependable or trustworthy, making decisions on any matter these days, risky at best.
I guess the best I can say at this point is that the health insurance companies have not acted in a manner deserving of keeping their industry…and our health should not be a matter of profiteers. Providers should be handsomely compensated to keep the practioners sharp and the medical field a desireable career for the best and brightest. I would say to our legislators: have the integrity to do us proud…set the politics and the lobbyists aside for this one.
